MINISTRIES of Forest Hill Christian Church
OUR VISION: To be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice. (Micah 6:8)
Each of us as followers of Jesus Christ are called to ministries of love and grace. Our Ministry Groups not only give us tools, support and encouragement to help us fulfill that calling, but provide essential support to the wider community of faith. We encourage each member of our community to participate in a ministry group as part of their faith commitment and spiritual journey.
TRUE COMMUNITY
Hospitality
We are an Open and Affirming congregation that welcomes all people in the name of Jesus Christ—His Table is set and everyone is invited. Our Membership Ministry seeks to reach out to welcome and embrace visitors and provide information for those who might want to join us on this wonderful adventure that is our spiritual journey.
“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) Celebration is a vital component in our spiritual life. Our Hospitality Ministry helps us celebrate our life together by planning anything from potlucks to barbecues, new member celebrations to game days, birthday celebrations to movie nights. We invite you to come and rejoice with us and celebrate our life in God.
DEEP CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY
Worship
Our God is an awesome God and worship is our heartfelt response to all that God has done, and is doing, in our lives and in our world. Here at Forest Hill we seek to offer our whole selves to the glory of God, mind, heart, soul and strength, and not just on Sunday mornings but each and every moment of our lives. Thus we preach and we pray; we sing and we dance; we laugh and we cry; we sit in silence and we share in conversation; we question and we respond—all in wonderment of God’s mystery and gratitude for God’s Self-revelation in Jesus Christ. Our Worship Ministry helps plan, create and prepare for our worship gatherings. We hope you will join us as we seek to journey deeper into the heart of God and reveal in our own lives the love and grace that is a life in Christ.
Spiritual Growth
We believe that the forming of the soul that it might be a dwelling place for God is the primary work of our lives. As Christians we are called to grow in our spiritual relationship with Christ. Our Spiritual Growth Ministry provides opportunities for adults to gather in small groups for reflection, study and prayer and for children to learn about and experience the love of God and the way of Jesus in a fun, lively and nurturing setting. We invite you to join us for Children’s Church, Bible Study, book groups, prayer classes, and round table discussions as we seek to grow in Christian love and faith.
PASSION FOR JUSTICE
Outreach
“Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” (Matthew 25:34-36)
We are biblically committed to reaching out to those in need in our community. On the local level, we support the San Francisco Food Bank, collect clothes for mental patients at San Francisco General Hospital, eyeglasses which are repaired for the needy, books for underprivileged children, and clothes and toiletries for a battered women’s shelter. We have worked on Project Homeless Connect in San Francisco and cooked dinners for the homeless shelter sponsored by the Interfaith Council of San Francisco. On a global level, we support Week of Compassion, Doctor’s Without Borders and World Vision. It is our mission to serve.
Pre-School
Children are incredible gifts from God, placed in our care for love and nurture. Our Pre-school provides a safe haven and a nurturing environment in which children can experience the love of God and develop positive self-esteem, respect for others and concern for the environment. We encourage children to do what they do best—be children. And while they are at it they can play, learn, share, paint, draw, listen, sing, cook, create, swing and make new friends.
